Birribee Housing (Birribee), is a community-driven organisation committed to providing safe, secure, and culturally appropriate housing for Aboriginal people to practice self-determination and meet their social, cultural and economic needs. Birribee have been awarded funding from the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) to co-design and deliver a Specialist Homelessness Service (SHS) to meet the housing and homelessness needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population in the Western Sydney region. The primary objective of this SHS funded services is to ensure people who are experiencing homelessness, or who are at risk of homelessness, are supported to achieve safe and stable housing in the community.These case workers play a pivotal role in delivering culturally appropriate and holistic case management services to clients within the Specialist Homelessness Service (SHS) program. The primary objective is to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness to achieve safe and stable housing in the Western Sydney region.Operating within a community-driven framework, the Case Worker will engage in rapport building, culturally safe assessments, case planning, warm referrals, advocacy, and coordination with strategic partners to facilitate client pathways towards housing stability. This role will operate across Western Sydney LGAs â Identified as Parramatta, Blacktown and Penrith.Key responsibilities:Engage in the entire client-centred case management services â rapport building, assessments, planning, goal setting and reviewsEngage with LGA community members and conduct outreach activitiesLiaise with relevant partners and services to facilitate referrals and provide client supportMaintain up to date records and reportingAdvocate for client rights and needsDemonstrate a deep understanding and respect for the Aboriginal communityDesign and implement community engagement and development programsEssential CriteriaExperience with entire case management servicesFacilitate regular community events and represent Birribee HousingAbility to coordinate with agencies and advocate for client’s needsEmpower tenants and collaborate with organisations to provide resourcesCultivate partnerships with local communities, providers and government agenciesContribute to the Sustaining Tenancies ProjectEstablish mechanisms for monitoring and reportingDesired criteriaIt is highly desirable that the successful candidate for this role identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.Qualification in Social Work or other relevant tertiary educationKnowledge of housing/homelessness services and / or strong knowledge of Aboriginal cultureWillingness to contribute to balanced gender representationTo be successful in this role, you must have your drivers licence, be willing to undergo a police check and obtain a Working with Children Check.
