Director – Policy and Research

Our client, HumanAbility, is a not-for-profit, industry owned and led organisation that is contracted by the federal government. It was established as a Jobs and Skills Council for the health, human services, sport & recreation, and early childhood industries to fulfil the requirements of the Jobs & Skills Councils, Strengthening Australia’s National Vocational Education and Training System program. The RoleThe HumanAbility team are now seeking a Director of Policy and Research, who will manage the policy, research, and workforce planning function for the industries within HumanAbility’s scope. You will spearhead HumanAbility’s strategic policy, research, and data analytics, a role critical in enabling the team to achieve their strategic objectives and deliver on core functions which include industry stewardship, training product development and implementation, and effective promotion and monitoring.Your leadership will be pivotal in delivering the annual Workforce Plan, which guides the strategic planning and articulates priority workforce development initiatives in partnership with key stakeholders.Working alongside the training and product development, as well as stakeholder engagement teams, you will inform training product development, research and workforce planning strategies.You will work closely with the Australian State and Territory governments, Jobs and Skills Australia Industry and key stakeholders to understand workforce challenges, and design and deliver HumanAbility’s research program and workforce development projects and initiatives. Essential Skills and QualificationsHigh level of policy and research skillsKnowledge and understanding of workforce challenges at the national, urban, regional and remote levelsDemonstrated knowledge of the National Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector and VET policy, the labour market and industry sector workforce planning and skills developmentAt least 5+ years of experience in senior policy and research roles in the VET sector or similar organisationsDemonstrated ability to lead and a small, dynamic team in a complex environmentOutstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build and manage complex stakeholder relationshipsThe role will involve travel for stakeholder meetings, workshops, and industry events.  The team are open to the role being 0.8 FTE or full time if preferred.You will be required to undertake a criminal history check as part of the pre-employment process.
